Homeopathy vs. Allopathy: Which is more effective and when?

Introduction to homeopathy

Homeopathy was founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in Germany in 1796 as a form of alternative system of medicine. Alternative system of medicine is system which does not agree with the general scientific principles of the mainstream medicine and medical science but treats the diseases and illnesses through other direct or indirect means. The system of homeopathic medicine is based in the law of like cures like, which is also the underlying concept behind the development of vaccines which are used in modern medical science. The science behind homeopathy states that the cause of the disease or the symptom of the illness, when delivered in low dosages to the body, helps the body in developing resistance against that particular disease of symptom.

Introduction to allopathic medicines

Allopathic medicine system is in line with the modern medical science and the medicines are developed after exhaustive testing in the laboratories. These medicines have a more direct approach and attack the cause of the symptoms of illnesses. These medicines have different means of distribution within the body, for example, some medicines maybe delivered orally, and some directly to the bloodstream. Moreover, these medicines contain various compounds which help in delivering the medicine in addition to the compounds which attack the cause of the illness of the symptoms. Since, it is a more scientific approach; it acts in a prompt manner and offers quick relief as compared to other alternative systems of medicines.

Effectiveness of homeopathic and allopathic medicines

Homeopathic medicines are very effective in the long run as they help in improving the immunity of the body against the disease and the symptoms. However, the allopathic medicines, since they directly attack the cause of the illness or the symptom, they provide instantaneous relief. But the problem with allopathic medicines is that they contain several additional compounds which have adverse effects on the human body. But the homeopathic medicines don’t have any adverse effects and since these are delivered in low dosages, they are safe even for children, pregnant women, and old age people. Another added advantage of low dosages of the homeopathic medicines is that they can be combined with any other system of medicine without adverse interactions. However, it is always best to consult the concerned doctor or specialist before combining different systems of medicine.

Find the correct balance for you

Homeopathic and allopathic medicines cannot be compared on the same grounds because both systems of medicines have different advantages and disadvantages. However, since both the systems of medicines are complementary, it depends upon you to consult your doctors and find the perfect balance of these medicines for you. There are many symptoms of illnesses and diseases which need instantaneous relief, in which case, allopathic medicines can be preferred. However, since homeopathic medicines offer a long term cure from the root causes of the illness without adverse effects, they could be used to complement the allopathic medicines for holistic cure of the diseases.
