Diagnosis & Treatment in Homoeopathy

Homeopathy is a science that has been made by observing and mimicking the nature. Homeopathic remedies are used in a variety of situations. Homeopathy is used in the treatment of chronic conditions like headaches, arthritis, insomnia, multiple sclerosis and chronic fatigue syndrome. It is also used for diarrhoea, bruises, infections, asthma, cold, flu and various women’s disorders like pre-menstrual syndrome, menopause-related problems, and fibroids.

Traditionally, only one homeopathic medicine is prescribed to a person at a time. The treatments done by homeopaths are adapted according to the patient. That is why two people with the same conditions may not receive the same remedy. The type of remedy given to a person depends on various factors like environmental factors, health history, diet, etc.

Homeopathic diagnosis and treatment have an individual and holistic approach. Homeopathic doctors treat the person who is sick as a whole and not their body parts. While treating the patient, homeopathic practitioners consider physical, mental and emotional aspects of the person. They consider each patient as an individual and thus prescribe them medicine. So, even if 3 people are suffering from fever, all of them might get a different homeopathic remedy targeting the individual.

The homeopathic prescription is an individualized formula and it changes from person to person, diseases to disease and it depends on the duration of diseases in a person. According to homeopathy, if a person is coming for a checkup after a month, the medicines prescribed to him should change according to the present situation of the patient. This is why the medicines cannot be prescribed in advance or over a phone call.

Homeopathic diagnosis is like an art in itself. It takes much time and preparation for the selection of remedy or deciding the right combination of treatment. The medicine which is prescribed should be chosen according to the type of personality of an individual and the build-up of the person.

The medicine prescribed should balance the hormonal system of the patient, their pancreas, and the patient’s immune system. If the same person comes with different complications, for example, a person having fever comes with complications like an irregular menstrual cycle, the logic of prescribing medicine changes as now new levels of problems have to be taken into account while treating the patient. Again, if another person comes with problems like diabetes and asthma, then again the calculation will be absolutely different because then the asthma-like symptoms will have to be considered for the treatment.

The remedies are selected based on the symptoms derived from a healthy person. This is called ‘proving’ the remedy. Full-strength doses of a substance are given to healthy people and their symptoms are recorded. These substances become remedies for those symptoms in an unhealthy person. These provings are listed in a repertory, every homeopath’s referral text. A particular remedy can be selected for an individual by comparing their symptoms to the listed proving.
The goal of the homeopathic treatment is to cure the entire body, and not target any particular symptoms. In fact, the symptoms are expected to aggravate as the treatment takes effect. Homeopaths even try more than one remedy before finding the right one. The treatments vary from person to person.
